Pin It Up Babycakes!

Our friend, Alice Stribling, has been working hard co-curating a red hot pinup & burlesque art exhibition that opens at 111 Minna Gallery on Thursday, February 5th (6PM - 2AM). They've been working for a year on this and it's sure to not disappoint. Besides the fabulous art you'll also be treated to Burlesque performances, vintage burlesque film clips, and sexy merchandise.
The event is free before 9PM and then it becomes $5 for the burlesque show.
Don't miss it!

San Francisco Community Acupuncture

I've been visiting San Francisco Community Acupuncture for the last 3 weekends to help with a pain/knot I got in my neck/shoulder and I'm happy to say the pain is now completely gone.

SFCA's deal is that they charge a sliding scale ($20-$40) and you pay what you can afford. They do also charge a $20 fee for new patients so you're first appointment will cost you $20 + what you'll pay from the sliding scale. During your first appointment, they'll go over your medical history and talk about what you want to focus on with your acupuncture treatments. You are then placed in a group setting; there are 4 chairs in the common room so you'll never be with more than 4 people but on the average I was only with 1 other person (all on Saturday). My acupuncturist two out of the three times was Melissa - she was awesome.
You can make appointments online, which I always love.

They also deal with Chinese Herbal Medicine, however I wasn't offered any herbs as I probably didn't need any for my condition. Oh, and they also do massage therapy but I haven't tried that.

I would highly recommend San Francisco Community Acupuncture if you're low on funds and need treatment. I would recommend them even if you weren't low on funds! Yelpers agree.

Free WiFi at Starbucks + extras

While I love my small local coffee shops and I do frequent them as well, I have been spending more time than I'd like to admit at Starbucks. I learned awhile ago that if you register a Starbucks card on their site, you get lots of freebies. Besides the freebies, putting a set amount of money on my Starbucks card per month helps me budget.

You create an account and register your card on their site and if you want the free WiFi make sure you add that to your account. Once that is done, as long as you pay with your card in the store you'll receive at least 2 free hours of ATT WiFi per day. I've been able to use it for more than 2 hours on several occassions. You'll also receive free syrup and milk options (so you won't have to pay extra for soymilk) as well as free refills on brewed coffee.

I've been able to hang out, get some work done (I get too distracted in my house) and only spend a few dollars for one cup of coffee. Questions?

Free day at SFMOMA

If you find yourself with nothing to do on the first Tuesday of the month, why not check out the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)? Admission is completely free the first Tuesday of every month. If you'd rather make an appearance in the evening along with your employed friends, you might want to check out Thursday nights - it's 1/2 price admission (making it $6.25) from 6:00 - 8:45 PM. I've seen the line pretty long on Thursday nights at times.
I went this past Tuesday around 3:00 PM and expected it to be much busier than it actually was. There were still quite a bit of people in there but I was definitely pleasantly surprised and had room to move around and see what I wanted to see.

Visit the SFMOMA next month!

Elbo Room - Cheap Happy Hour

A few weeks ago, some co-workers and I checked out Elbo Room's happy hour and we were more than happy! Besides having a happy hour run that runs from 5 - 9 PM, they have $2 draught beer specials. The night we were there it was Prohibition Ale. Yum! What a bargain.
The space itself is very cool and it wasn't crowded on that Wednesday night so we had no trouble finding a table, getting a drink, or hearing each other when chatting. A good time was had by all.

Goldstar

No, you don't get a goldstar - yet.
Goldstar is a website that sells discounted tickets for all kinds of events - theatre, concerts, sporting events, etc. They also have discounted 'tickets' for spa services sometimes but these go pretty fast. They do charge a small service fee but most of the tickets are a good 50% off so it's still usually a great deal. You do have to join Goldstar in order to take advantage of the offers. They also have emails that they send out weekly with the current events so you don't have to visit the site all the time. I think it's well worth signing up.

I've been eyeing this play:
Evie's Waltz and the Smuin Christmas Ballet. Who wants to go?
